Dear Reader,
The season most famous for color has arrived, and we are ready!  This month we look at how color brings our subject matter to life, clarifying details as well as adding dimensions of beauty and  mood.  But we're also considering how color can become the subject of the picture.  With  more abstract intensions we can allow patches of color, juxtapositons of color, harmonies of color, and clashes of color to carry the day.

The white balance control on our cameras is often the forgotten step-child.  I'm not sure why, since nailing color is critical to insuring our pictures deliver the intended impact.  Using in-studio, hands on experiences as well as an at-home assignment, this workshop will offer opportunities to experiment with white balance in single source and mixed lighting conditions. It's time to be sure white balance becomes part of your tool box of photo skills.

First session to discuss the whats, wheres and hows of white balance :

Tuesday,  11/17  7:00 - 8:30

Second session to share your work from intervening week:

Tuesday,  11/24  7:00 - 8:30

Photo Field Trip

Pennock Woods

This is a small nature sanctuary in Lansdowne, PA  that offers a surprising variety of photographic subjects. The vibrant colors of the fall foliage against the textures of old logs, rocks, moving water and a sandy bank provide a great chance to celebrate the season in this little-known gem.  Location:  Lansdowne, PA

Sunday,  11/21  1:30 - 3:30

When we figure out how to reinstate the salon, we will be sure to have a big announcement.

Photographer of the Month:

Pete Turner

Peter Turner, one of our master colorists, was shooting before the advent of Photoshop.  The only post -processing he used to get these spectacular results was a mix of in‑camera filtration, slide duplication on Kodachrome and dye‑transfer printing.  Though once  digital means such as Photoshop were available, he made use of them,  this selection shows what could be achieved with analog only.
