Color in Motion

August Photo Field Trips:

30th Street Station

Sunday, August 13  2:00 - 4:00

This Philadelphia site is so familiar  and utilitarian, it is often overlooked for its photographic possibilities.  But we will explore  the grand architecture, indoor markets, the tracks, wires, trains coming and going and views of the city from the platforms.  Our approach will go beyond showing a "beautiful building", and aim to document the interplay between man and the environment in this transportation hub.  (Also a great place to capture people going about their everyday lives.)

Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum

Sunday,  August 20   2:00 - 4:00

This trip is not only for car lovers. It is also perfect for photographers looking for a unique opportunity to explore the shine, style and pizzazz of these classic automobiles. The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford and more. For more information see this link: Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum

August Two-Part Photo Workshop

 Color in Motion

Fridays  August 18 and 25    7:00 - 8:30

Embrace the blur!

In this workshop we will explore different approaches to capturing a subject in motion.  Add color and you have some really dynamic and abstractly compelling images.  Panning and stop action are the two means most often thought of.  But there are also a number of  exciting effects you can achieve by zooming your lens, double and triple exposures, and moving and manipulating the light source.  Come learn some unexpected ways to add jazz and fun to your photography.

Session One: Discussion of a wide range of techniques to incorporate color and motion into your pictures.

Session Two  Share your work from the intervening week.

Cost :  $80

Photographer-of-the-Month:  Ernst Haas

Disclaimer:  Ernst Haas is not, nor has he ever been, a student at Owen Biddle Photo School!  Rather, he has always been one of my photography heroes.  He is a giant in our field for the scope and the depth, the originality and the daring of his work.  I chose to feature him this month because many of his images show just how exciting the concept of "color in motion" can be.

Heads Up: Kitty Kono is coming to Lansdowne to share with us "A Wildlife Photographer's Love Story" Sunday afternoon, October 8.  Those who know Kitty or have seen her incredible images from Valley Forge to Africa to Just North of Antarctica realize we are in for a real treat. Kitty is traveling to the Pantanal in Central Brazil to photograph the jaguars in September - just before our October presentation. She says she may be able to include a few of those images as well. You don't want to miss this - put it on your calendar.  More details to follow.

August  Photo Salon

Sunday 3:00 - 4:30  August 27

These are very friendly, relaxed get-togethers at my apartment in Lansdowne. Photographers of all levels are welcome to share pictures, get photography tips, and discuss camera equipment. You can also get ideas for entering photography contests, submitting to photography magazines and having photo shows. Feedback from the group provides encouragement and inspiration to go out and take more pictures. These informal photography critiques offer an excellent opportunity to start identifying themes in your work and to get ideas for new directions. Group size is limited, so if you can come an RSVP is required by email or call (610) 626-7854. Cost is $10.  These Salons often fill-up, so it's best to confirm your spot early!
