November Two-Part Photo Workshop
​
Weather, light and color are ingredients we can use to make our landscapes really communicate a sense of place, time and mood - especially during the fall, when change is the order of the day. Learn to exploit a misty morning, discover techniques to catch fall leaves moving in the wind, develop you sensitivity to late afternoon light, maybe even capture the drama of storm light or the mood of moonlight.
Our first session will be to look at outstanding examples of fall landscapes by famous photographers and to discuss equipment and technique.
The second session will be to share your work from the intervening week

November Photo Field Trips

An unusual choice of setting, perhaps, but one that is especially evocative in the November light. The mausoleums, obelisks, angels and arching trees are the elements for creating uncommon compositions. A great chance to try out your tripod and wide-angle lens.

This is a small nature sanctuary in Lansdowne, PA that offers a surprising variety of photographic subjects. The changing colors of foliage against the textures of old logs, rocks, moving water and a sandy bank provide a great chance to celebrate the season in this little-known gem.

Fundamentals 1: Camera Operations is for students who are just starting out, or want a
good review of the basic camera functions.

Fundamentals 2: Applications is for students who have some comfort with the camera and want to start applying their skills to expand their photographic range.

Fundamentals 3: Composition takes photography beyond the subject, and encourages you to see the artistic and compositional opportunities in everyday life. Here is a chance for your right brain to come out and play!

Fundamentals 4: Lighting Across the Genres is for students who are ready for the next critical step: lighting. Explore sophisticated means of controlling both natural and artificial light for portraits, landscape and still life to get just the mood and effects you want.

Here's what Robert has to say: "Although I have been interested in photography for most of my life, (I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s looking at the images every week in LIFE Magazine) it has been only the last dozen years or so that I have taken it more seriously. This past June I retired after 41 years of teaching high school history and am now devoting all of my time to my photography. There are many things I like to photograph, candid shots of people, sports, nature, still lifes but lately I have begun to spend most of my time creating what I call “urban abstracts.” Using Philadelphia as my setting, I frequently travel into the city to shoot cityscapes. I find that the most interesting images are created when the weather is inclement, such as rain, fog, or my favorite, snow. Then on my computer I overlay two, three or even four different pictures in order to create a completely new image. At first it was a random process, hit or miss, but lately I am beginning to see in advance what images might work well together and which will not. I call them urban abstracts because the end result is an image of a city that exists nowhere."

Here's a treat! We've never seen Philadelphia quite like this, but Robert has actually captured the essence of our city in these very original and beautiful compositions. Maximizing the effects of weather and light he brings us some really special images.
