Maybe our moms told us not to play with our food, but at this workshop we will! Fall foods offer an amazing array of colors, shapes and textures - the perfect ingredients for some stunning images. Come learn about arranging, lighting and framing these enticing shots. Food, candle light, flowers etc will be provided for a vey fun hands-on workshop! Come play!

October Photo Field Trips
Two trips in pursuit of the colors of the season....

Monday, 10/14 4:30 - 6:30
Scott Arboretum, located on the campus of Swarthmore College, is an expanse of woods and creek, and formal gardens - an ideal location for capturing the glories of Fall. We've timed this trip to take advantage of the wonderful lighting effects of the setting sun illuminating the colorful leaves.

The color, the bustle, the energy of Philadelphia's Chinatown offer endless opportunities for pictures that reflect a special culture and a special mood. This after-dark trip adds the element of neon colors amplifying the excitement of our images.

Fundamentals 1: Camera Operations is for students who are just starting out, or want a
good review of the basic camera functions.

Fundamentals 2: Applications is for students who have some comfort with the camera and want to start applying their skills to expand their photographic range.

Fundamentals 3: Composition takes photography beyond the subject, and encourages you see the artistic and compositional opportunities in everyday life. Here is a chance for your right brain to come out and play!

Fundamentals 4: Lighting Across the Genres is for students who are ready for the next critical step: lighting. Explore sophisticated means of controlling both natural and artificial light for portraits, landscape and still life to get just the mood and effects you want.

Sunday 3:00 4:30 October 20
These are very friendly, relaxed get-togethers at my apartment in Lansdowne. Photographers of all levels are welcome to share pictures, get photography tips, and discuss camera equipment. You can also get ideas for entering photography contests, submitting to photography magazines and having photo shows. Feedback from the group provides encouragement and inspiration to go out and take more pictures. These informal photography critiques offer an excellent opportunity to start identifying themes in your work and to get ideas for new directions. Group size is limited, so if you can come an RSVP is required by email or call (610) 626-7854. Cost is $10. These Salons often fill-up,
so it's best to get your spot early

Here is what Tom has to say about himself:
"Although I have photographed since I was in high school, I became hooked with the purchase of my first digital camera in 2007. I am primarily a travel photographer since I lack the patience needed for other types of photography, but also because the great beauty and diversity of our planet urges me to document its manifestations in all their varied forms. My wife Grace and I love festivals and remote places where our increasingly homogenous culture, which threatens to destroy traditional ways of life, has has not yet penetrated, leaving other ways still reasonably intact. Our favorite places are the middle and far east, and also Europe. Over the years I have taught myself the basics of Photoshop. I am active in my photo club, the Delaware Photographic Society, have served as chairman of the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography for three years, and have achieved the Master level in exhibitions recognized by the Photographic Society of America. My intent is to make each image that I ultimately select for my “Best” folder a work of art that can stand on its own.
​
What can we add, except "Wow!"? We chose Tom this month because of his masterly use of color, but we have received so much more. Enjoy these stunning images that underline the universal humanity Tom finds everywhere he goes.
