Two-Session Photo Workshop
Fridays 7:00 - 8:30 12/14 12/21
Your DSLR or mirrorless camera is a very sophisticated instrument with the potential to take high-level, exciting pictures that can capture meaningful moments and express your artistic self. Learn to blur out the background to bring your subject forward, freeze action in the instant, take pictures in low light or even night photography and control the color in your images. The first session will cover all these capabilities of your camera and the second session will be to share your work from the intervening week and to get feedback.

Tuesday 12/11 10:00 - 12:00
This Philadelphia site is so familiar and utilitarian, it is often overlooked for its photographic possibilities. But we will explore the grand architecture, indoor markets, the tracks, wires, trains coming and going and views of the city from the platforms. Our approach will go beyond showing a "beautiful building", and aim to document the interplay between man and the environment in this transportation hub. (Also a great place to capture people going about their everyday lives.)

Tuesday December 18, 10:00 - 12:00
Bring your camera to our world class museum and explore the possibilities of photographing the vast array of artwork. Especially intriguing for photographers are the collection of armor, the monumental statuary from India and the serene images of Cambodian Buddhas. The building from inside and out also makes for great photographs.

December Photo Salon

Sunday 3:00 - 4:30 December 16
These are very friendly, relaxed get-togethers at my apartment in Lansdowne. Photographers of all levels are welcome to share pictures, get photography tips, and discuss camera equipment. You can also get ideas for entering photography contests, submitting to photography magazines and having photo shows. Feedback from the group provides encouragement and inspiration to go out and take more pictures. These informal photography critiques offer an excellent opportunity to start identifying themes in your work and to get ideas for new directions. Group size is limited, so if you can come an RSVP is required by email or call (610) 626-7854. Cost is $10. These Salons often fill-up,
so it's best to get your spot early!

Photographer of the Month:
Fiona Keyes

Here's what Fiona has to say about herself:
"Photography is seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Capturing the true essence and beauty of my subject has always intrigued me, and my love for nature continually leads me to the next micro-universe of discovery. My images represents the various colors, textures, folds and lines that I love to get lost in while admiring the world around me and have evolved into an exploration of the magnificence of detail. The simplicities of our daily passings have become works of art that evoke the feelings of awe and inspiration.
I hope you are drawn into my world of amazement."

Actually, there's no way NOT to be drawn into the the beautiful images Fiona puts before us. Our theme this month is photography as art, and her selection demonstrates this perfectly. Her attention to color, line, texture, shape, lighting, and above all, powerful composition, add up to pictures that hold your eye - just like all wonderful art does!

Photo Tips for Photo Art
Don't be shy to think of yourself as an artist. Anyone with a camera, an eyeball or two, and a soul, has what it takes. Look at paintings and sculpture, magazines, illustrated books, sunsets, tree branches, babies (you get the idea). Let the inspiration flow in and let your artistic expression flow out.

A favorite local photographer, Celeste Stewart, put it well: "Look at the masters...they have figured it out."
